The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met for a Regular Board Meeting Session at 4:00 p.m. on February 16th, 2022 at the Aberdeen School District Office, 268 S. 4th W. Suite A, Aberdeen, Idaho.
CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM
Chairman Todd Lowder opened the regular meeting at 4:15 p.m. Other Board members present were Sherrie Mauroner, David Wahlen and Elaine Blik. A quorum was established. Amy Burusco arrived at 4:35 p.m.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 4:17 p.m., a motion was made by Trustee Wahlen that the Board of Trustees of School District No. 58 recess from an open meeting into executive session pursuant to Section 67-2345, Idaho Code, in order to discuss Section 67-2345: Subsection b (Consideration of personnel issues) and that following the executive session the Board will reconvene in public session for the purpose of conducting further business or for adjournment of the meeting.
A roll call vote was held with the following results:
Todd Lowder – Yes; Amy Burusco – absent; Sherrie Mauroner – Yes; David Wahlen – Yes; and Elaine Blik – Yes. The motion passed.
The executive session recessed at 5:45 pm and the regular session reconvened at 5:50 pm.

DELEGATION AND PATRON INPUT
There was no delegation or patron input.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
There were changes made to the agenda to add the approval of the February 15th work session minutes under Consent Items – 9F, approve school closure on 2/18/22 due to low ADA and shortage of teachers under Business Items – Actions 11G and to approve Construction Services, Inc. to put out for bid for the HVAC system in the old high school under Business Items – actions 11H.
A motion was made by Trustee Blik and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve the agenda as modified. The motion passed.
SUPERINTENDENT and ADMINISTATOR REPORTS
Superintendent Ward discussed her written report. Mrs. Ward reminded everyone of the Open House on February 24th from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The public is welcome to visit the new gym area and the new district offices. Covid-19 funds helped pay for the renovations. Parent/teacher Conferences will be held that day as well. The health curriculum will be adopted this year. If anyone would like to review the curriculum, please make an appointment to visit your school and ask to see the curriculum. It is available to review upon request. Mrs. Ward would like to thank Travis Pincock for all his work he did to get our high school fully accredited this year. The accreditation process is every six years. Please vote for the levy on March 8th.
Travis Pincock provided a written report. Building administrator reports are available for review upon request at the district office.
Ann Mennear reviewed her written report. The middle school offers tutoring Monday through Thursday. Several students are taking advantage of this service. The boys’ basketball district tournament is Friday, February 25th, 2022 at Soda Springs. Delta Dental will be offering free fluoride treatments to our students on March 9th or 10th 2022. Permission slips will be sent home with the parents the first week of March. Mrs. Mennear added that a parent engagement survey will be set up during parent/teacher conferences on Chromebooks to complete the survey.
Robi Jo Colton discussed her written report. The battle of the books assembly for the 4th and 5th grade teams was held on February 9th. The scholastic book fair will be from February 18th through the 24th. The book fair will be open for parent/teacher conferences and parents may purchase books for their children. Samples of the health and mental well-being curriculum are available for parents and board members to review the options. Mrs. Colton thanked the Aberdeen Times for having the battle of the books in the newspaper. Mrs. Colton provided hand-outs for Istation reading and math scores and discussed the results.
David Vaughn reviewed his written report. He discussed the SICA testing results in English/language arts, math and reading for elementary school students. WIDA Access for ELL’s testing has started. All ELL students in the district are being tested and teachers will receive results in the spring. Seniors in special education are continuing to work on their senior projects and are doing very well. Darla Wright and Kristina McClurg and the high school para-pros are supporting the students.

After further discussion, A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Blik to approve the overnight trip request for State BPA to Boise, ID on 3/17/22 to 3/19/22. The motion passed.

Approve Construction Services, Inc. to Put Out for Bid for the HVAC System in the Old Highschool
Mrs. Ward provided a handout from Hutchison Smith Architects for the schematics of the HVAC system to put out to bid for the old high school.

Review Star Math and Reading Growth Reports
Mrs. Mennear discussed the Star math and reading student growth reports. For review only, no motion was necessary.
TRUSTEE INPUT
Trustee Mauroner thanked Ann Mennear for the Star reading and math test results. She said the growth for the students is amazing and thanked the teachers for the work they do. She is happy for the Girls’ basketball team going to the state tournament and hopes they do well. She thanked the teachers that are leaving the school district for their time and service teaching in Aberdeen.
Trustee Burusco congratulated the Girls’ basketball team and thanked the teachers leaving the school district for their time teaching in Aberdeen. She wants to get into the spirit and attend more school athletic events.
Trustee Wahlen agrees with Sherrie and Amy and he expressed his appreciation for the teachers retiring and leavings the school district. Its amazing how many years they have worked here. He is thrilled about the Girls’ basketball team going to state and is excited about Isabella Martinez getting to go to state Girls’ wrestling. He wishes the wrestlers well in district wrestling. He spoke of the realities of depression and how it affects students and asked that we pay attention and be aware of those that may have depression.
Trustee Blik is sad to see the teachers leaving the school district. With the teachers retiring there is 95 years of combined experience. She appreciates the time that has been put into our student’s education. She is proud of our sports teams and wishes them the best and she thanked the administrators for their reports.
Trustee Lowder said it is unfortunate that there are conflicts with the timing of the wrestling and basketball games. He invites every parent to look at the curriculum at school, the health curriculum especially and would like feedback from the parents. He reminded everyone to vote on March 8th and he appreciates all our teachers and the work they do. He said depression is real and has seen it in his life. He thanked the teachers for their dedication to the kids.
