The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. on May 18th, 2021 at the Aberdeen School District Office in Aberdeen, Idaho.
CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM
Chairman Todd Lowder opened the meeting at 7:07 p.m. Also present were Mike Shackelford and David Wahlen. A quorum was established. Elaine Blik arrived at 7:10 p.m. and Sherrie Mauroner was absent.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
DELEGATION AND PATRON INPUT
Gloria Torres presented her senior project to the Board. She worked on sanding and painting flowerbeds and growing various flowers to display on main street once the weather is warm enough. Sherry Yancey along with middle school students Neida Alvarez Gonsales, Hadley Pincock, Daniela Garita, Amanda Klassen and Elle Woods discussed their Yellowstone trip and the activities they participated in.
SUPERINTENDENT and ADMINISTATOR REPORTS
Superintendent Ward reviewed her written report. Graduation is May 27th at 7:00 pm in the middle school gym. The teacher’s last day is June 2nd and the student’s last day will be May 28th. Mrs. Ward appreciates the negotiation team we had this year. They were very professional and a pleasure to work with. A student is painting the football field bleachers for a senior project and this will be very much appreciated. Mrs. Ward and Dena Blaker have been working on information to give to the Idaho State Department of Education on all the credits our faculty has accumulated and the degrees they hold.
Travis Pincock discussed his written report. Tiger Pride Day will be held on May 14th. Jenny Wahlen and Aimee Hubbard are planning out the day for their senior project. The FFA auction and dinner is May 19th at 6:30 pm in the Vocational Ag/practice gym. Mr. Pincock said the high school musical was wonderful and he would like to thank Mr. Millett, the students and all of those who helped put together a wonderful show. Mr. Pincock added that the high school girls track team were district champions and are going to state.
Ann Mennear discussed her written report. Track finished on Friday, May 7th with the last meet held in Aberdeen. Mrs. Mennear would like to thank Natalie Lewis, Aimee Elliott, Heidi Brown, Hannah Wright and all the other volunteers who worked with the track team this year. Finals are scheduled for May 18-26 and students will only be taking one final each day. Teachers are providing study guides and reviews for the finals.
Robi Jo Colton reviewed her written report. The Mother’s Day/Father’s Day music program is rescheduled for Monday, May 24 from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. at the auditorium. Grades 1-5 will be singing songs to honor parents. Mrs. Colton thanked the parents, PTA and AEA for helping with teacher appreciation week. May 28th is the last student day with early release at 1:15 pm.
David Vaughn discussed his written report. ISAT testing is still being completed. Mr. Vaughn will be attending the final special education advisory panel meeting of the year for the state department on May 17th. The district will be eligible to receive Learning Loss funds from the state which will be allocated based on Idaho Reading Indicator scores completed in April. Mr. Vaughn is receiving many summer school student registrations. Summer school will be held for students in preschool through fifth grade who have been recommended by their teachers from grade and test scores. Summer school will be held June 7th through June 25th Monday through Friday.

Approve Hiring Elementary School Teacher Jeffery Pratt
A motion was made by Trustee Wahlen and seconded by Trustee Blik to approve hiring elementary school teacher Jefferey Pratt.
Ratify Teacher Negotiations for the 2021-2022 School Year
A motion was made by Trustee Blik and seconded by Trustee Wahlen to ratify teacher negotiations for the 2021-2022 school year. The motion passed.
BUSINESS ITEMS – DISCUSSION
First Review of the 2021-2022 General Fund Budget
Business Manager David Burke presented general fund revenue, fund balance, transfer and expense budget line items with the Board. For review only, no motion was necessary.
TRUSTEE INPUT
Elaine Blik congratulated the girls track team for their first district win. She welcomed Aberdeen Alumni Jefferey Pratt as a new elementary school teacher. She was happy to hear from Sherrie Yancey that the Yellowstone trip went well.
David Wahlen agreed with Elaine Blik and welcomes Jefferey Pratt as an elementary school teacher. He is happy to see a male elementary school teacher in our district. He said the middle school track meet was handled well with all of the students and the high school musical was wonderful. He complimented all the staff for their hard work.
Mike Shackelford said the Yellowstone experience for the students was great and he thanked the middle school for the track meet. He said its nice to see paid positions for the coaches and its good to have a male teacher in the elementary school.
Todd Lowder Hopes Sherrie Mauroner’s mother is doing well and is thankful for everyone in the school district with the work they have done this last year with the COVID-19 restrictions. He has heard what other school districts have had to do with a mask mandate. He is thankful our school district has not had to worry about a mask mandate. He is glad that our track team did well and he enjoyed the high school musical. He congratulated Jenny Wahlen for placing 4th in state solos.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 8:32 p.m., a motion was made by Trustee Blik that the Board of Trustees of School District No. 58 recess from an open meeting into executive session pursuant to Section 67-2345, Idaho Code, in order to discuss Section 67-2345: Subsection b (Personnel) and that following the executive session the Board will reconvene in public session for the purpose of conducting further business or for adjournment of the meeting.
A roll call vote was held with the following results:
Elaine Blik – Yes; Todd Lowder – Yes; Mike Shackelford – Yes; Sherrie Mauroner – Absent; and David Wahlen – Yes. The motion passed.
The Regular session reconvened at 10:07 p.m.
With no further action needed, the meeting adjourned at 10:10 p.m.
