Board Minutes: 02/26/2025

The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in a work session at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at the Aberdeen School District office located at 268 S 4th W Suite A Aberdeen, Idaho.

CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM

Chairman Brian Rowlan opened the meeting at 2:01 p.m.  Present were Amy Burusco, Sherrie Mauroner and James Patten.  A quorum was established.  Aimee Elliott arrived at 2:10 pm.

PURPOSE OF MEETING AND BUSINESS CONDUCTED

The meeting was advertised to discuss and approve proposals for the high school football field and athletic field projects.

Thomas Salaiz with Hands On Agronomy, LLC provided an estimate for repairs and maintenance for the football field and Terell Bair with Bair Irrigation and Landscape provided several project estimates for the high school football field and the proposed athletic practice field. CJ Mauroner with the school district maintenance/grounds department discussed his concerns if the board approved Thomas Salaiz’s proposal for the high school football field.  His concern was the staff maintenance requirement in the proposal of the football field may be too much work to do with Troy Reynolds retiring at the end of June.  Mr. Reynolds will likely be busy training a new maintenance/grounds employee and not have the time to oversee the work needed for the grass seed maintenance, fertilizing, aerating and watering.

Terell Bair with Bair Irrigation and Landscape discussed several estimates for maintenance and repairs of the high school football field and installing a new athletic practice field adjacent to the football field.  Mr. Bair was able to update a proposal to combine some proposals and reduce some of the costs to be more affordable for the school district to consider.  There were concerns that if this project wasn’t done correctly, the district would need to continue to pay for additional maintenance and repairs on the football field in a few years.  Mr. Bair’s updated proposal included repairs to the high school football field and the installation of a new athletic practice field.  Details of the proposal can be viewed at the district office upon request.

Superintendent Ward and Business Manager David Burke discussed their concerns that the FY 24-25 district budget does not include funds for the proposed projects and the costs will come from the general fund balance.  Mrs. Ward will look for grants to help pay for some of the costs for these projects as well as seek donations from the community.  Athletic Director Natalie Lewis and High School Principal Travis Pincock discussed the needs for repairing and improving the fields.

A motion was made by Trustee Patten and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve the bid from Bair Irrigation and Landscape for $232,936 for repairs to the existing high school football field and to install a new athletic practice field.  The motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at 3:55 pm.
