Board Minutes: 09/15/2022

The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in a work session at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 15th, 2022 at the Aberdeen School District office at 268 S 4th W Aberdeen, Idaho.

CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM

Chairman Todd Lowder opened the meeting at 10:08 a.m.  Present were Sherrie Mauroner, Amy Burusco, Brian Rowlan and Elaine Blik.  A quorum was established.

PURPOSE OF MEETING AND BUSINESS CONDUCTED

The meeting was advertised to discuss SEL curriculum with In focus Education Group, the five year facilities plan, middle school gym audio repairs and emergency messaging and mass notification with PowerSchool. 

Social Emotional Learning Curriculum with In Focus Education Group

Representatives from In Focus Education Group gave a presentation of their online SEL curriculum content, lesson plans and features.  Teachers, parents, school administrators and Trustees would have access to the curriculum to review prior to any lessons given to students.  Several questions from  Trustees and patrons were discussed and answered by the representatives on how the SEL curriculum is researched and created for students in all grade levels.  Lunch was provided by the school district food services department at noon and Trustee Blik left the work session at 12:45 pm.  School counselors Nicole Shackelford and Debbie Ellis discussed other options and publishers for SEL curriculum including Woodburn Press and Everyday Speech and they answered additional questions from Trustees and patrons.  SEL curriculum will be a discussion item for the September 21st regular Board meeting.

Five Year Facilities Plan

Superintendent Ward discussed district-wide plans and costs for building maintenance and program needs.  No motion was necessary, for discussion only.

Middle School Gym Audio Repairs

An estimate from Sound Source was discussed with Travis Pincock for the middle school gym audio problems to repair or replace the auto mixer.  No motion was necessary, for discussion only.

Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification with PowerSchool

There was discussion on the emergency messaging and mass notification procedures the district currently uses with the communication platform Remind, and a different communication platform called Intrado SchoolMessanger with PowerSchool.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Burusco to adjourn the meeting.  The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 3:55 a.m.
