The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in regular session at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17th 2021 at the Aberdeen School District Office in Aberdeen, Idaho.
CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM
Chairman Todd Lowder opened the meeting at 5:35 p.m. Also present were Mike Shackelford, Sherrie Mauroner and Elaine Blik. A quorum was established. David Wahlen arrived at 5:40 p.m.

SUPERINTENDENT and ADMINISTATOR REPORTS
Superintendent Ward reviewed her written report. Troy Reynolds has been hired as the new maintenance supervisor. Thomas Roofing has completed the work on the cafeteria roof. The grease trap behind the cafeteria was emptied. The removal of the high school bleachers will begin July 5th and the installation of the new bleachers will start on July 12th. The overhang above the door into the commons area of the high school will be taken off by the company A-Core Concrete Specialists. Removing the overhang is a requirement from our building inspection this year. Spring break will begin Monday, March 22nd with students returning to school on Monday, March 29th.
Travis Pincock discussed his written report. The senior projects are done and there were some fantastic presentations. Mr. Pincock thanked all the teachers and community members for helping mentor, judge and grade. Mr. Pincock had three seniors present their projects to the Trustees. Track and golf has started. There are about 65 to 70 students participating in track, which is a lot more than in previous years. Eliza Morris and Kayla Duba are doing a great job and have been receiving some help from others. Mr. Pincock would like to thank all those who help coach golf and track. FFA continues to sell raffle tickets for the tractor that was donated by Conan Feld. The high school will be receiving a new distance learning lab. The high school applied for a grant through ISU last year and will receive a grant award. Direct Communications will be paying for equipment in the lab. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be able to take college courses with ISU online. Mr. Pincock worked with Holly Krachner on the grant and she had many good things to say about our students who graduated from Aberdeen and then attended ISU. Mr. Pincock added that BPA has students that qualified for nationals and he congratulated Wayne Millett for being named the Idaho Music Educator of the Year with the Idaho Music Educators Association.
Ann Mennear reviewed her written report. Track will be starting Monday, March 15th and Ms. Lewis anticipates that around 70 students will be participating this year. The first meet is on March 31st and Aberdeen Middle School will be hosting three meets this year for 6th through 8th grade students. On February 23rd, Buck Copeland showed the 8th grade students some basic vehicle maintenance as part of the life skills requirement for the GEAR UP grant. Mrs. Mennear thanked Buck for taking the time to meet with our students. On March 4th, the middle school students read to the 1st and 2nd grade students in the elementary school. The book this year was Fox in Socks. After reading to the elementary school students, an activity was completed and the books were given to the students to take home. This is an annual activity that GEAR UP sponsors.
Robi Jo Colton discussed her written report. The benefit for Ellie Klassen was amazing. The fifth grade students sang the song “Stand by Me”. Mrs. Colton thanked Mrs. McCombs for arranging the practices. On March 5th, the elementary teachers and Mrs. Colton attended a science professional development via WebEx through HMH. They will have another professional development opportunity on April 9th.
David Vaughn discussed his written report. They are nearing the completion of the WIDA for all ESL students in the district. Simone Pratt and Briley Driscoll have been doing a great job proctoring this year and Veronica Carrillo has helped with organizing, scheduling and managing the materials for the tests. The ISAT window is open from March 15th through May 28th. Each building is scheduling their times to take the test. The state department will be having another COVID check-in webinar this week. There are still several districts not fully open. There are also some different regulations for alternate assessment and ISAT’s this year.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
There were changes to the agenda to add state golf in Worley, Idaho from May 15th to May 18th 2021 under Business Items – Discussion (9C), online classes (9D) and executive session to discuss personnel.
A motion was made by Trustee Shackelford and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve the agenda as amended. The motion passed.

Approve February 2021 New Hires A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Blik to approve the February 2021 new hires. The motion passed.
Approve FY 21-22 School Calendar A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Shackelford to approve the FY 21-22 school calendar. The motion passed.
Approve Bid to Paint the High School Gym A motion was made by Trustee Shackelford and seconded by Trustee Wahlen to approve the bid to paint the high school gym from Ed’s Painting Contractor Inc. for $33,150. The motion passed.
BUSINESS ITEMS – DISCUSSION School P.E. Equipment School building P.E. equipment requests for fiscal year 21-22 were reviewed. A motion was made by Trustee Shackelford and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve purchasing the school building P.E. equipment requests for fiscal year 21-22. The motion passed.
High School Music Department – Salt Lake City, Utah May 7th to May 8th The high school overnight trip request from Wayne Millett to Salt Lake City was reviewed. A motion was made by Trustee Wahlen and seconded by Trustee Blik to approve the overnight trip request to Salt Lake City from May 7th to May 8th. The motion passed.
High School Golf – Worley, Idaho May 15th to May 18th The high school overnight trip request from Brian Beck to Worley, Idaho for state golf was reviewed. A motion was made by Trustee Wahlen and seconded by Trustee Blik to approve the overnight trip request to Worley from May 15th to May 18th. The motion passed.
Online Classes The option of starting classes with online coaches and/or teachers was discussed. For discussion only, no motion was necessary.
TRUSTEE INPUT
Trustee Mauroner thanked everyone for the jobs they do and is glad to see school in session. She enjoyed the middle school play and wants to see everyone back after spring break.
Trustee Wahlen agrees with Trustee Mauroner and enjoyed the play as well.
Trustee Blik wishes the golf team the best and is happy to see that the kids are in school and hopes everyone has a good spring break.
Trustee Shackelford said the play was well done and appreciates Ryan Wahlen supporting the basketball program.
Trustee Lowder appreciates the direct communication with our schools and congratulated Wayne Millett for being named the music educator of the year. He is excited for those in BPA going to the nationals and for the many participants in middle school and high school track. He wishes everyone to have a good spring break and thanked the teachers and administrators for the work that they do. He is grateful to be part of the school Board and this community and appreciates everyone’s input.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 7:26 p.m., a motion was made by Trustee Blik that the Board of Trustees of School District No. 58 recess from an open meeting into executive session pursuant to Section 67-2345, Idaho Code, in order to discuss Section 67-2345: Subsection b (Personnel) and that following the executive session the Board will reconvene in public session for the purpose of conducting further business or for adjournment of the meeting.
A roll call vote was held with the following results: Todd Lowder – Yes; Mike Shackelford – Yes; Sherrie Mauroner – Yes; David Wahlen – Yes; and Elaine Blik – Yes. The motion passed.
The Regular session reconvened at 9:30 p.m.

With no further action needed, a motion was made by Trustee Shackelford and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m.
