Policy 419: Fund Raising Drives

Charitable Fund Raising Drives

The primary duty of the school is to provide an educational program for students.  There are worthy charitable drives and many of these organizations like to use students to raise funds.  However, this poses a serious problem of logistics.  Consequently, the principal, in consultation with teachers, may involve the school in no more than one charitable non-sectarian drive per school year.  This charitable drive must be structured so that participation by students is strictly voluntary.

Principals may authorize non-sectarian and non-commercial written or printed announcements of a proper nature to be posted on the bulletin boards of their schools.  Principals may authorize announcements for such organizations as the P.T.A., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and for any city, state, or Federal government.

Student Fund Raising Drives

All Elementary-Middle School fund raising activities must go through the advisor and principal with the following conditions.  All High School fund raising activities must go through the advisor, student council, and principal with the following conditions.

1.   The student or extra curricular organization has specified the purpose of the proposed fund drive detailing what the funds will be used for;

2.   The school board must approve any overnight travel for which the funds may be used;

3.   The funds must be distributed according to the administrative distribution policy.  Money received during a fund raising activity which is earmarked by the donor will be treated as a gift under policy 830;

4.   High priority will be given to fund raising activities which are designed to purchase uniforms or equipment which are reusable from year to year and in which ownership rests with the school and not the individual student or advisor.  Low priority will be given fund raising activities which are to raise money for clothing, costumes, or other items which eventually will be owned by an individual student or advisor.

5.   The building principal is not authorized to approve any auction, sale, loan, use, or trade of any individual, group of individuals, or organization that could create any feeling of one being more valuable or more desirable than another.

PTA Fund Raising Drives

PTA fund raising drives should be coordinated with the building principal with mutually established purposes and priorities.
