In the orientation of new members of the Board of Trustees, the following procedures will serve as guidelines:

The member-elect should be invited to a special orientation meeting of the Board, at which time the membership will discuss Board functions, policies, and procedures for the benefit of the new member.  During such meetings, the new member should be given selected materials dealing with the position of a school board member.

The newly elected member should be invited to attend Board meetings prior to his assumption of office, and to participate in Board discussions.

The Superintendent of Schools should supply material pertinent to the Board meetings and should explain the use of these materials..

The incoming member should meet with the Superintendent to discuss programs and services that are provided within the District.  This may also include visits to the schools and other points of interest in the school district.

Particular attention should be called to the Board’s Policy Manual.
