Board Minutes: 12/18/2025

The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in regular session at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 18th, 2025.  Due to weather conditions resulting in a power outage at the Aberdeen School District Office in Aberdeen, Idaho, the meeting was held at the University of Idaho Aberdeen Research and Extension Center – College of Agricultural and Life Sciences located at 2700 W. Aberdeen, ID 83210.

CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM

Chairman Brian Rowlan opened the regular Board meeting at 2:30 p.m.  Present were Amy Burusco, Sherrie Mauroner and Aimee Elliott. James Patten was absent.  A quorum was established. 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The flag of the United States of America was not available. The pledge of allegiance was not recited by those in attendance.

SUPERINTENDENT and ADMINISTATOR REPORTS

Superintendent Ward discussed her written report.  She hoped everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving Break.  Mrs. Ward and the staff at the district are now getting excited for the Christmas season.  Mrs. Ward met with Visionary Signs and they should get back to her with something to give to anyone who wants to submit a design for the white bus.  Mrs. Ward added that turkeys will need to be picked up by staff at Stokes due to the power outage at the school.  Mrs. Ward would like to thank Marina and all those that attended the PAC meeting.  Marina discussed how our Title I programs were performing.  A meeting was held for our custodial staff on how to obtain health insurance.  A Spanish speaking representative was present to discuss what health insurance was available to them.  Mrs. Ward clarified that our bus drivers have first priority to use the new white bus that the district purchased.  The bus was purchased so that coaches and teachers can drive the bus if there is an emergency, or for convenience which would help the busing department in scheduling.  

Travis Pincock provided a written report.  He wished everyone a merry Christmas.  He congratulated our football team on taking 3rd place in the state.  Coach Jolley and his staff do an excellent job in coaching and Mr. Pincock has received many compliments about the good sportsmanship of our football team.  The BPA had a regional competition on December 9th at ISU.  Some Aberdeen juniors and seniors participated in the ACT.  Mr. Pincock thanked Mrs. Ellis for continuing to make the test available to our students in Aberdeen.

Marina Taylor provided a written report.  The winter testing window for the STAR Reading and Math assessments is from December 1st through January 31st.  The Aberdeen Music Department Christmas performance was held on December 15th at the performing arts center.  The middle school wrestling season finished on November 21st at Districts held in West Side.  The Tigers did well, and Ms. Taylor would like to thank Jackson Kendall and Emanual Carrillo for coaching the wrestling team.    The girls baskeball season finished on December 12th at the District Tournament in Soda Springs and the boys basketball season started December 15th

Robi Jo Colton provided a written report.  Mrs. Colton wished everyone a merry Christmas and thanked her staff with their work in handling the power outage at school.  Mrs. Ward added to Mrs. Colton’s report to thank her for helping with students that couldn’t get picked up from school and worked with their relatives and friends to make sure they received a ride home.  Delta Dental came in for the 1st, 2nd and 5th grade classes on December 9th, 10th and 11th.  Grades K-2 wrote letters to Santa to be published in the newspaper.  The annual Battle of the Books will be in February for our 4th and 5th graders and the 3rd graders are invited to watch. 

David Vaughn was absent but provided a written report.  Mr. Vaughn attended the State Special Education Directors webinar on 12/3/25.  Several items were discussed including the Special Education Child Count, General Supervision File Review, Secondary Transition to post school activities and Dual Enrollment.  Several teachers have completed the Restraint and Seclusion training modules.  This is required for all staff who work with students in the classroom.  Mr. Vaughn is in the process of evaluating several students for Special Education including Early Childhood students.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

There was an addition to the agenda to add the superintendent search brochure under Business Items – Actions 8B.

A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Burusco to approve the agenda as modified.  The motion passed.

A motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve consent items – actions 7A-F as listed on the agenda.  The motion passed.

Approve Monthly Staff Changes

A motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve the monthly staff changes.  The motion passed.  

Superintendent Search Brochure

Some of the wording was changed as well as the placement of pictures of the high school in the superintendent search brochure created by the Idaho School Board Association.  The closing date on the timeline was changed from Friday, March 27th 2026 to Friday, February 13th 2026.  The Trustees asked about the applicant interview timeline in the brochure and agreed to go with the recommendation of the Idaho School Board Association for the wording once this could be determined.

A motion was made by Trustee Elliott and seconded by Trustee Mauroner to approve the superintendent search brochure with the changes.  The motion passed.   

BUSINESS ITEMS-DISCUSSION

Aberdeen School District Board Meeting Dates 2026-2027

Dates and times for the board meeting schedule were reviewed and will be finalized at the January regular board meeting.  No motion was necessary, for discussion only.

Schedule Superintendent Evaluation

Mrs. Ward added that there will be no need for a superintendent evaluation since she will be retiring at the end of this school year. 

For discussion only, no motion was necessary.

School Logo for 14 Passenger District Bus

After further discussion, a motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Maruoner to approve having a contest open to the students of Aberdeen School District #58 to submit a logo to be place on the new14 passenger district bus.  The motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Trustee Elliott and seconded by Trustee Burusco to adjourn the meeting.  The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 3:13 pm.
