Board Minutes: 11/19/2025

The Board of Trustees of School District No. 58, Bingham County, Idaho met in regular session at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025 at the Aberdeen School District Office in Aberdeen, Idaho.

CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A QUORUM

Chairman Brian Rowlan opened the meeting at 5:30 p.m.  Present were Amy Burusco, Sherrie Mauroner, James Patten and Aimee Elliott.  A quorum was established. 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

SUPERINTENDENT AND ADMINISTRATORS’ REPORTS

Mrs. Ward discussed her written report.   There was training for the district office on retirement options and procedures.  David Vaughn arranged for the Idaho State Department of Education to provide training on how to write IEP’s and legal matters that affected Special Education students.  Travis and Heather attended a conference to train on College and Career opportunities for high school students.  Nicole Shackelford and Debbie Ellis are working with staff members on developing a safety plan for the school district.  All school personnel will be able to leave at 2:00 pm on Nov. 26th for the Thanksgiving Break.

Mr. Pincock discussed his written report.  The FFA had a wonderful time at the National Convention.  The student council is sponsoring a food drive at the high school.  The food drive will go until November 26th.  Most of the teachers at the high school are participating in the book study, The Anxious Generation.  Mr. Pincock would like to thank Mike Guyer for donating a guitar to the music department.  Amber Tilley received the Rural Arts Grant for just under $4,000.  The money will be used in the music department and the art department.  Aberdeen was once again awarded the GEAR UP grant.  GEAR UP is a federally funded program to help students gain early awareness of post-secondary opportunities.  The grant will start with this year’s 7th grade students.  The grant is for $44,000.  There was a meeting for graduating seniors and parents to discuss graduation and scholarships and to begin to fill out the FAFSA.  Currently, 72% of our seniors have applied to college through Apply Idaho.  Mr. Pincock thanked Denver Driscoll for his help with the costs to install additional lighting around the gym entrance.

Robi Jo Colton provided a written report.  The annual Battle of the Books at Aberdeen Elementary will be held in February for the 4th and 5th graders and the 3rd graders are invited to watch the battle again.  There was a food drive with Tiny and the Hideous Horseman November 3rd through the 13th.  Over 750 food items were donated and Mrs. Colton thanked the motorcycle club for running the food drive.  Parent/Teacher conferences were held on November 7th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Mrs. Colton added Ms. Johnson and Mr. Pratt started the IDX meeting with the 5th graders and Over 130 people attended the family reading nights.

Marina Taylor provided a written report.  Teresa Torres held the first Migrant PAC meeting for the year on October 23rd.  The Parent/Teacher conferences were held on November 7th and 78 families attended.  With the help of Sgt. Henrie and Nicole Shackelford, a lock down drill was scheduled for November 19th.  Just like monthly fire drills, lock down drills are to prepare students and staff for safety for everyone with ways to respond to potentially active threats.  The district Book Fair was held on November 14th at Barnes & Nobles in Idaho Falls.  Mrs. Blaker, Mrs. Corbridge and Mrs. Woods were at the main entrance of the store.  A percentage of the sales were donated to our school libraries.  On November 26th, Natalie Lewis will hold the traditional AMS Hawaiian Football Championship and Eating contest.  Wrestling and Girls Basketball is in midseason and going well and the middle school is in the process of hiring a Boys Basketball coach.

Mr. Vaughn reviewed his report.  Mr. Vaughn attended the Directors Advisory Committee (DAC) in Boise on 11/11.  They collaborated on how to improve the General Supervision Reviews including the monitoring system.  They also discussed recent updates of policies that are being proposed or amended at the state level including Duel Enrollment.  The Special Education Support and Technical Assistance Team (SESTA) came to our district on October 24th and trained several of our staff including general education teachers and administration on several topics centered around IEP’s and parent involvement.  Students in grades K-3 finished taking the Idaho Reading Indicator through the Amira program in October.

There was a change to the agenda to add Business Items – Discussion B. Bus Signage.  A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Elliott to approve the agenda as modified.  The motion passed.

A motion was made by Trustee Mauroner and seconded by Trustee Elliott to approve Consent Items-Actions 7 A-E as listed on the agenda.  The motion passed.

BUSINESS ITEMS-ACTIONS

Approve Alternative Authorization form for High School Teacher Curtis Brown

A motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Elliott to approve the alternative authorization form for high school teacher Curtis Brown.  The motion passed.

Approve Monthly Staff Changes

A motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Elliott to approve the monthly staff changes.  The motion passed.

Approve Bid to Sell Used 66 Passenger School Bus #08-25

A motion was made by Trustee Elliott and seconded by Trustee Burusco to approve selling used 66 passenger school bus #08-25 for $3,600 to Bill Funk Farms.  The  motion passed.

BUSINESS ITEMS-DISCUSSION

Harvest Break Survey

There was discussion on having a survey of the impact of Harvest Break on our school community and local workforce.  No motion was necessary, for discussion only. 

Bus Signage

There was discussion on having a contest for our students to create a logo or design for the new 14-passenger district bus.  No motion was necessary, for discussion only.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Trustee Burusco and seconded by Trustee Elliott to adjourn the meeting.  The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 6:05 pm.
