Policy 609.50: Awarding High School Credit for Courses Taken Before Ninth Grade

Aberdeen School District No. 58 will award high school credit to any student who completes any required high school course if the following criteria are met:

  1. The student completes the course with a grade of C or higher before entering grade nine (9);
  2. The course meets the same content standards that are required in high school for the same course; and
  3. The course is taught by a teacher properly certified to teach high school content and who meets the federal definition of being highly qualified for the course being taught.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student’s grade and the number of credit hours assigned to the course will be transferred to the student’s high school transcript.  The student’s parent or guardian will be notified in advance when credits are going to be transcribed and may elect to not have the credits and grade transferred to the student’s high school transcript.

Courses taken in middle school that appear on the student’s high school transcript will count for the purpose of high school graduation.  However, the student must complete the required number of credits in all high school core subjects as identified in IDAPA 08.02.03.105 and Policy No. 610, High School Graduation Requirements, except as provided below.  The transcribing high school will verify the course meets the requirements set forth in paragraphs 1-3 above.

This policy does not apply to obtaining credit for senior projects.
